Covid-19 and Cars – Automotive Therapy

What an ugly year 2020 has turned out to be. Covid-19 has torn through countries and communities and brought pain to everything it’s touched. It’s been a hard and trying time for individuals, families, and businesses alike.

There have been some good things to have happened, however. Griot’s Motors officially opened up shop in February 2020, right at the beginning of a pandemic that no one could have anticipated, and here we are 8 months later looking at a potential second wave.

Through the past 8 or so months I’ve been consistently reminded just how resilient and supportive the community of car enthusiasts are. Local clubs and event organizers have been incredibly creative in the way they have continued to share in the passion for cars. Automobile auctions and dealerships have been agile and quick to adapt to the new challenging task of digital presentation of their inventory, which has both its pros and cons (we’ll get into those in a future post). Many long-forgotten garage projects and at-home engine re-builds finally got the time and focus they require. I know on a personal level that weekend drives have become an ever-important form of active meditation and stress reduction for many. For me, there has been no greater joy than to jump into a classic car without a radio or Bluetooth, no news, no political banter and just listen to some raw engine whine and exhaust notes. It has done wonders for my peace of mind, and ability to cope with the daily stressors that living in this extremely different Covid-19 world brings about. I know I’m not alone in this either. Clients, colleagues, friends, and family have shared with me the many comforts their beloved cars have given them during these trying times, whether it be from spending hours in their garage detailing and servicing, or in their car driving, or maybe just sitting and reflecting in quiet appreciation. In a world presently filled with so much noise, it’s been important to have an escape or a reset button. Cars, and my passion for them, have always been that outlet for me. Now, more so than ever, has an exhaust note been so welcome to my ear, and so reliably brought a smile to my face. As we enter into the last few months of 2020, we at Griot’s Motors hope you stay safe and well, and we will continue to be here to support this amazing community of automotive enthusiasts. Feel free to reach out and let us know how your car has helped you through these times!
